Items to note this week, October 18 – October 23:

    Hello LMS Band parents/students:
Items to note this week, October 18 – October 23:

    • Practice slips are due Monday – October 18! – 40% of the grade!
This practice guide should be read by both parents and students! A truly helpful tool for setting goals for musical advancement!

    • 7/8 Concert this week! If you haven’t done so yet, please check to see that your child’s concert clothing fits (Black pants or skirts/dresses, White shirts and Black socks/hosiery and Black shoes). Black pants and shoes will also be worn for the marching band performance at the UI Homecoming parade October 23 (7th/8th marching band).

    • 6th grade Band: This band is sounding really good – it all has to do with the amount of practice they are putting in!!! (FYI – Our first concert is on Tuesday, December 14)
The test piece for this Thursday is the second line down on page 37 “F major scale”. You will play this scale going up only. I would like it to be no slower than half notes.
Pieces to practice: “Holiday Sampler” & “March of the Spartans” – start looking at and working through page 17 “Eagle Summit March”

    • 7th and 8th grade Bands: We will present our first concert of the year this week. On Thursday, October 21, students need to be in the band room no later than 7pm for warm-up and tuning. Be sure to wear black and white concert clothing and come prepared and focused! This is going to be a great concert but only if you’re focused.
Practice the 6 chorales with corresponding scales, Parade America, Takin’ Care of Business (memorized), Land of the Free, El Toro, WSU Fight Song, March Del Mar, Kitty Hawk March, Honor March. There should be quite a bit of practicing going on at home. There will not be a test this week!

    • 7th/8th Jazz Band: The students have three pieces to be working on “I Can’t Stop Lovin’ You”, “Pico De Gallo” & “Do Nothin’ ’til You Hear From Me”. Sound clips are available on our website as well. Remember that our first performance is at the WSU Jazz Festival on November 3 during the school day. More information will be coming when I receive it.
Also, remember that this class starts at 7:30am.

    • There is a new instrument care page that I created on our website. Every woodwind and brass player should check this out!!

    • Every once in awhile I will add a link to the watch, listen, learn portion of our website. This is mostly Youtube stuff so if you don’t want your child to use this program don’t pass it on. However, the links that I post are really inspiring to both younger and older musicians alike. Take a look – Watch, Listen, Learn

    • Extra Credit: Check out the events calendar on our website ( http://dev-lms-band.audibleim.com/news/other-events/ ).
Your child is able to earn up to 100 extra credit points for attending a concert and typing a critique. Here is the criteria – http://dev-lms-band.audibleim.com/extra-credit/
