  • Practice Slip Due:

Items to note this week, October 4 – October 7:

Items to note this week, October 4 – October 7 (no school Friday):

Practice slips are due Monday – October 4! – 40% of the grade!
This practice guide should be read by both parents and students! A truly helpful tool for setting goals for musical advancement!

The October newsletter is available here.

If you haven’t done so yet, please check to see that your child’s concert clothing fits (Black pants or skirts/dresses, White shirts and Black socks/hosiery and Black shoes). Black pants and shoes will also be worn for the marching band performance at the UI Homecoming parade October 23 (7th/8th marching band).

There is a new instrument care page that I created on our website. Every woodwind and brass player should check this out!!

6th grade Band: The test piece for this Thursday is #31 on page 10 “On the Bridge at Avignon”.

7th and 8th grade Bands: Practice the 6 chorales with corresponding scales, Parade America, Takin’ Care of Business (memorized), Land of the Free, El Toro, WSU Fight Song, March Del Mar, Kitty Hawk March, Honor March & Marche Militaire (8th only). There should be quite a bit of practicing going on at home. Mostly concert band rehearsal this week to solidiy the concert marches.
We will also take a test over the “Db” concert scale on Thursday this week!

I will be handing out assumption of responsibility forms this week for the UI parade. I need them back ASAP. Attached to assumption of responsibility form will be the itinerary for the day. I know there are soccer games and other activities scheduled but I don’t know our entry number in the parade to help with the return time to LMS. There is a form for parents to fill out that would allow you to take your child directly from the end of the parade (I will have a check off sheet by the bus) if you need to get your child to and activity sooner than the bus will arrive back at LMS. All of these forms and information are on our website here.

7th/8th Jazz Band: The students have three pieces to be working on “I Can’t Stop Lovin’ You”, “Pico De Gallo” & “Do Nothin’ ’til You Hear From Me”. Sound clips are available on our website as well.

Jr. All-State (8th grade only): Make sure that you have your audition material nailed so the recordings will go smoothly. Be on time to your recording time-slot in case we have to do a couple of takes. We will record October 4, 5 & 7. There is a sign-up sheet on the main door to the band room.
I’ve uploaded playing examples to the website and they are played by trumpet but I think the students will get the idea.

Extra Credit: Check out the events calendar on our website – here.  Your child is able to earn up to 100 extra credit points for attending a concert and typing a critique. Here is the criteria.
