Items to note this week, November 15 – November 18:

Practice slips are due Monday – November 15! – 40% of the grade!
This practice guide should be read by both parents and students!  A truly helpful tool for setting goals for musical advancement!

Congratulations to the 7th/8th grade Concert Band on an outstanding assembly for our Veteran’s.  They performed “Honor March” and “March Del Mar” and sounded Great!  Thank you!

A HUGE congratulations to the following 8th graders selected to the Washington Music Educators Association Jr. All-State.  The students listed below will join more than 375 other outstanding young performers in Bellevue toward the end of February for an incredibly AWESOME day of music.
    Haley Freymann – French Horn
    Trevor Joireman – Snare Drum/Timpani
    Micah Lagerquist – Baritone Saxophone
    Ashok Manoranjan – Trumpet

Thanksgiving Break is right around the corner.  Practice time is not required over the break but is strongly encouraged.  The students have more than enough music to be practicing and will benefit greatly by getting some playing time in even if it’s only a few minutes a day.  Any practice time that the student records and turns in the Monday after break will be counted as extra credit!

6th grade Band:  This band is sounding really good – it all has to do with the amount of practice they are putting in!!!  (FYI – Our first concert is on Tuesday, December 14)
The test piece for this Thursday is the top two lines (Concert Bb) on pg. 44 – Accent on Chorales.
Try working as far ahead in your book as you can get.  Remember to always play with a good tone and great rhythm!!! There is a real nice solo on page 34 in your book that you should start working on.
Pieces to practice: “First Concert March”, “Holiday Sampler”, “March of the Spartans” & “Eagle Summit March”
You will receive a new piece to start work on this week as well (probably “Intensity”)!!!

7th and 8th grade Bands:  Both bands have three new pieces of music to be working on.
7th – Parade of the Tin Soldiers, Fireburst Fanfare, The Great American Frontier  – Test piece this Thursday – sections from “The Great American Frontier”.
8th – Cantique De Noel, Forest Brook Overture, The Impossible Machine - Test piece this Thursday – sections from “The Impossible Machine”.

7th/8th Jazz Band:  The students have four pieces to be working on “I Can’t Stop Lovin’ You”, “Pico De Gallo”, “Do Nothin’ ’til You Hear From Me”, “Heat Miser” & “Drum Boogie”.  Sound clips are available on our website for most of the pieces as well.
Our next performance is for the annual Kiwanis pancake breakfast on Saturday, December 4 from 10:45am to 11:15am.
Also, remember that this class/rehearsal starts at 7:30am.
