Practice slipsÂ are dueÂ Monday â€“ January 10!Â – 40% of the grade!
This practice guide should be read by both parents and students!Â A truly helpful tool for setting goals for musical advancement!Â
Happy New Year!Â 2011 is going to be an incredible year for the LMS Band Program!!
6th grade Band:
The test piece for this Thursday, January 6, is #1 on page 42.Â Also, Keep working through page 37, Accent on Scales!
Pieces to keep in your folder for a performance in the spring: “First Concert March”, “March of the Spartans”, “Eagle Summit March”, â€œIntensityâ€ & â€œAffirmationâ€. Try working as far ahead in your book as you can get.Â Remember to always play with a good tone andÂ great rhythm!!!Â There is a real nice solo on page 34 in your book that you should start working on.
7th and 8th grade Bands:
7th – FireburstÂ Fanfare, The Great American Frontier â€“ You have other music already and we will continue to work on those pieces.Â I will let you know your test piece for Thursday when we return on Monday. Â
8th –Â Forest Brook Overture, The Impossible Machine â€“ You have other music already and we will continue to work on those pieces.Â I will let you know your test piece for Thursday when we return on Monday. Â
Solo & Small Ensemble Festival: 7th & 8th grade students who have chosen to participate in solo and small ensemble festival will continue preparing during the month of January.Â If you think that you would like to participate, please see Mr. Covill ASAP during lunch this week.Â The festival will take place Saturday, February 5th at LMS. Mr. and Mrs. Covill will be collecting fees from the students ($6 for solos, $9 for ensembles) this month as well.
7th/8th Jazz Band I:Â The studentsÂ haveÂ four piecesÂ to be working on “I Can’t Stop Lovin’ You”, “Pico De Gallo”, “Do Nothin’ ’til You Hear From Me” & “Drum Boogie”.Â Sound clipsÂ are availableÂ on our website for most of the pieces as well.Â You will get a new piece on Tuesday to learn for the MLK assembly.
Great job at the clinic given by John Clayton!Â He had some great things to say and you all did a fine job.Â Thank you.
7th/8th Jazz Band II:Â The studentsÂ should be working on these pieces â€“ â€œSteam Shuffleâ€, â€œDiscover the Bluesâ€, â€œTricky Sticksâ€ & â€œOne Eyed Jackâ€.Â The Hampton Festival is coming up quickly.Â Make sure you have your parts nailed â€“ NO REALLY!
