Practice slips are dueÂ Monday â€“ January 24!Â – 40% of the grade!
This is the LAST practice slip of the semester â€“ no late slips will be accepted!Â We will start keeping track of the minutes practiced for third quarter this week.
This practice guide should be read by both parents and students!Â A truly helpful tool for setting goals for musical advancement!Â
6th grade Band:
The test piece for this Thursday, January 27, is #4 on page 42.Â Percussion will test over #8 on the Stick Control page.Â Also, keep working through page 37, Accent on Scales!
Pieces to keep in your folder for a performance in the spring: “First Concert March”, “March of the Spartans”, “Eagle Summit March”, â€œIntensityâ€ & â€œAffirmationâ€. â€œWhen the Saints Go..â€ is new so try really hard to work on the fingerings and rhythms to make it sound great fast!Â Try working as far ahead in your book as you can get.Â Remember to always play with a good tone andÂ great rhythm!!!Â There is a real nice solo on page 34 in your book that you should be working on as well.
7th and 8th grade Bands:
7th â€“ Continue working on Miniature Overture, Talons of Fire, FireburstÂ Fanfare, The Great American Frontier â€“ You have other music already and we will continue to work on those pieces as well.Â The test piece for this Thursday, January 27, is #3 on the etude page.Â Percussion will use the â€œStick Controlâ€ page that was handed out â€“ You will play lines three and four – 4 times each.

Solo & Small Ensemble Festival: 7th & 8th grade students who have chosen to participate in solo and small ensemble festival will continue preparing during the month of January.Â There was a sign-up sheet on the door to the band room on which to write your name and title of your piece.Â If you neglected to put your name on that sheet see Mr. Covill ASAP Monday!Â The festival will take place Saturday, February 5th at LMS. Fees for the festival should have been turned in by now but if you havenâ€™t yet gotten the money in, get it to Mr. Covill tomorrow!
7th/8th Jazz Band I:Â Keep striving for excellence in playing the pieces that will be used for the Lionel Hampton Festival in a month!Â Swing Machine hopefully on Tuesday!Â
7th/8th Jazz Band II:Â The studentsÂ should be working on these pieces â€“ â€œSteam Shuffleâ€, â€œDiscover the Bluesâ€, â€œTricky Sticksâ€ & â€œOne Eyed Jackâ€ â€“ Saxes will play â€œAmazing Graceâ€.Â The Hampton Festival is coming up quickly.Â Make sure you have your parts nailed!
