Practice slipsÂ are dueÂ Monday â€“ January 31!Â – 40% of the grade!
This practice guide should be read by both parents and students!Â A truly helpful tool for setting goals for musical advancement!Â
6th grade Band:
The Solo & Small Ensemble Festival this Saturday is a wonderful opportunity for all of the 6th grade band students to get extra credit and see what this festival is all about.Â Everyone is welcome to watch and listen to our regionâ€™s performers.Â The performances are free and open to the public!
The test piece for this Thursday, January 27, is #5 on page 42.Â Percussion will test over #9 on the Stick Control page.Â Also, keep working through page 37, Accent on Scales!
Pieces to keep in your folder for a performance in the spring: “First Concert March”, “March of the Spartans”, “Eagle Summit March”, â€œIntensityâ€ & â€œAffirmationâ€. â€œWhen the Saints Go..â€ is new so try really hard to work on the fingerings and rhythms to make it sound great fast!Â Try working as far ahead in your book as you can get.Â Remember to always play with a good tone andÂ great rhythm!!!Â There is a real nice solo on page 34 in your book that you should be working on as well.
7th and 8th grade Bands:
7th â€“ Continue working on Miniature Overture, Talons of Fire, FireburstÂ Fanfare, The Great American Frontier â€“ You have other music already and we will continue to work on those pieces as well.Â The test piece for this Thursday, January 27, is scheduled for Flutes, Clarinets & Percussion and is over #4 on the etude page.Â Percussion will use the â€œStick Controlâ€ page that was handed out â€“ You will play lines five & six – 4 times each.
8th –Â Continue working on Themes from Harry Potter, Rites of Tamburo, Forest Brook Overture, The Impossible Machine â€“ You have other music already and we will continue to work on those pieces.Â The test piece for this Thursday, January 27, is #5 on the etude page.Â Percussion will use the â€œStick Controlâ€ page that was handed out â€“ You will play lines five and six – 4 times each.
Solo & Small Ensemble Festival: 7th & 8th grade students who have chosen to participate in solo and small ensemble festival will put the finishing touches on their pieces this week.Â I believe the only people who havenâ€™t paid are most of the musicians in the 7th grade clarinet ensemble â€“ please get that to me ASAP!Â The festival will take place Saturday, February 5th at LMS. Mrs. Covill should have the schedule completed by tomorrow and I will let you know your times after that.Â Keep working hard for this, you played well on Friday but now itâ€™s the push time!!!
Â 7th/8th Jazz Band I:Â Keep striving for excellence in playing the pieces that will be used for the Lionel Hampton Festival in a month!Â Swing Machine will sound great.Â I will see about more of the older swing style charts.Â Great job everyone!!
7th/8th Jazz Band II:Â The studentsÂ should be working on these pieces â€“ â€œSteam Shuffleâ€, â€œDiscover the Bluesâ€, â€œTricky Sticksâ€ & â€œOne Eyed Jackâ€ â€“ Saxes will play â€œAmazing Graceâ€ with the fixed ending.Â The Hampton Festival is coming up quickly.Â Make sure you have your parts nailed!
