Items to note this week, February 7 – February 11:

Items to note this week, February 7 – February 11: Practice slips are due Monday – February 7! – 40% of the grade!
This practice guide should be read by both parents and students!  A truly helpful tool for setting goals for musical advancement!

CONGRATULATIONS to all of the solo and ensemble performers for a wonderful day of music on Saturday!!!  I want to commend performers as well as audience members from Lincoln Middle School and Pullman High School for being so incredibly professional.  Your attitude and commitment to excellence is appreciated more than words can say.

Performers will get their results on Monday.  I am very happy with all of the scores from the day and ecstatic with all performances throughout the day.  The scores are presented in this form: I=Superior Rating, II = Excellent Rating, III = Good Rating, IV = Average Rating and V = Below Average Rating.  I am very pleased to say that LMS Bands received 8 Superior Ratings, 3 Excellent (+) Ratings and 2 Excellent Ratings.  I would say that LMS BANDS ROCK!  Congratulations EVERYONE!

    6th grade Band:
We will continue working toward our March 15 concert goal.  We will work through pages 22-26 this week so practice every night!  The test piece for this Thursday, February 10, is #6 on page 43.  Percussion will test over #10 on the Stick Control page.  Also, always keep working through page 37, Accent on Scales!

Pieces to keep in your folder for a performance in the spring: “First Concert March”, “March of the Spartans”, “Eagle Summit March”, “Intensity” & “Affirmation”. “When the Saints Go..” is new so try really hard to work on the fingerings and rhythms to make it sound great fast!  Try working as far ahead in your book as you can get.  Remember to always play with a good tone and great rhythm!!! There is a real nice solo on page 34 in your book that you should be working on as well.

6th grade Jazz Band will start Monday, February 28 at 7:30am.  This band is open to all 6th grade band students and will meet on Mondays and Fridays to get ready for our concert on May 19.  Percussionists wanting to join must have a set of brushes.  Please do not purchase the “Steve Gadd” model brushes.  Here is a link to what I would like the students to own: http://www.amazon.com/Pro-Mark-B600-Nylo-Brush-Nylon-Bristle-Retractable/dp/B0002PYXA6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=musical-instruments&qid=1297048548&sr=1-2

    7th and 8th grade Bands:

7th – Continue working on Seasons of Change, Miniature Overture, Talons of Fire, Fireburst Fanfare, The Great American Frontier – You have other music already and we will continue to work on those pieces as well.  The test piece for this Thursday, January 27, is scheduled for Brass, Saxes & Clarinets and is over #4 on the etude page.  Percussion will use the “Stick Control” page that was handed out – You will play lines five & six – 4 times each.

8th – You will receive a new piece this week to be played with the high school band at an upcoming performance, Canadian Trilogy.  Continue working on Themes from Harry Potter, Rites of Tamburo, Forest Brook Overture, The Impossible Machine – You have other music already and we will continue to work on those pieces.  The test piece for this Thursday, February 10, is #6 on the etude page.  Percussion will use the “Stick Control” page that was handed out – You will play lines seven & Eighth – 4 times each.

7th/8th Jazz Band I:  Keep striving for excellence in playing the pieces that will be used for the Lionel Hampton Festival this month!  Swing Machine will sound great too.  I will see about more of the older swing style charts.  Great job everyone!!

7th/8th Jazz Band II:  The students should be working on these pieces – One Eyed Jack, Steam Shuffle, Discover the Blues, Tricky Sticks & One Eyed Jack – Saxes will play Amazing Grace with the fixed ending.  The Hampton Festival is coming up quickly.  Make sure you have your parts nailed!
