Items to note this week! August 29 – September 2
Hello LMS Band parents/students:
Items to note this week, August 29 – September 2:
• Practice slips are due September 6th for all bands!
We start keeping track of practice time this week. Please encourage your child to be responsible for coming to you to get the slip signed, not the other way around! 100 minutes per week is required! For those without instruments, I will take that into account next Monday, September 6th – please don’t worry!
• The 6th grade bands are getting set and are very close to making some great sounds! If your child hasn’t yet secured an instrument and book, please make sure that happens as soon as possible.
• The 7th and 8th grade bands are sounding GREAT. They should be practicing the Bb, Eb, and Ab concert scales. They should also be practicing “Parade Americaâ€, “Thunder Bay March†and “Agent P” (they will get this tomorrow as I just finished the arrangement today). The bands will be getting more new pieces this week so there should be quite a bit of practicing going on at home. The 8th grade band also has “The Challenger†to be practicing.
• 7th and 8th grade Jazz band will start on Tuesday, September 6th at 7:30am in the band room! This band is open to any and all 7th and 8th grade band students. We meet throughout the school year on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
• The Audition materials for Jr. All-State are available. If your 8th grader is interested in trying out for All-State please have them talk to me and I will get them the information this week.
• I am very excited for the new school year! There is a lot of enthusiasm in all grades and exactly 205 students in the band program here at LMS this year. I think you will be impressed with the caliber of the musicians you’ll hear at the concerts!!!
October 8 – The 7th/8th grade marching band will march in the UI Homecoming Parade in Moscow. (Saturday morning)
